AFOQT scores, composite by composite

Updated Nov 6, 2026facts checked Nov 6, 2026

An AFOQT report has no total and no pass line. It lists composites only, each on the same scale: percentiles from 1 to 99 against the applicant norm group, not percent correct. Which composites count, and how high they must be, depends on the job you apply for.

Seven composites from twelve subtests

Rows are Form T subtests, columns are the composites on the report. A filled box means the subtest counts toward that composite. Arithmetic Reasoning no longer counts toward Pilot; it did on Form S.

Minimum AFOQT scores by path

Minimums: Verbal 15 and Quantitative 10 to commission; Pilot 25 for pilot and RPA pilot, CSO 25 for CSO, ABM 25 for ABM (rated minimums, not waivable).

  • Any commission (OTS, AFROTC): Verbal and Quantitative must both clear their floors. Academic Aptitude and Situational Judgment have no published minimum of their own.
  • Pilot and RPA pilot: the Pilot composite, plus the Verbal and Quantitative floors. Pilot boards then look at the PCSM as well.
  • Combat systems officer: the CSO composite, plus the same two floors.
  • Air battle manager: the ABM composite, plus the same two floors.

These figures are published by AFROTC detachments (Montana State, Rutgers) citing DAFMAN 36-2664, checked November 2026. A minimum is eligibility, not selection: above the floor, boards rank applicants against each other.

A percentile is not a percent correct

A Pilot score of 60 means you did better than about 60 percent of the applicant group the form was normed on. It says nothing directly about how many items you got right. Because the comparison group is made up of officer applicants, a low percentile can still mean a respectable raw score; AFPC's FAQ makes exactly this point about the Quantitative composite.

AFPC also notes that the applicant pool has grown more competitive since Form T was normed, so clearing the Verbal and Quantitative floors takes more than it once did. Neither the Form T pamphlet nor the FAQ prints a raw-to-percentile table, which is why online AFOQT score calculators can only estimate.

Looking up an AFOQT score report

Results take 2–3 business days to appear. AFPC posts them on its AFOQT score site (afmilpers.us.af.mil, "AFOQTSNet"), where you sign in with your SSN, last name and test center number; three wrong entries lock you out for 15 minutes.

If you cannot find your score or it looks wrong, contact your recruiter or test control officer, as Pearson VUE advises, before you book a retest that spends one of your limited attempts.

Retakes and the superscore

AFPC keeps a superscore: your best score on each composite across all valid attempts. A weaker second attempt cannot pull a stronger first composite down, so a retake costs time rather than points. Plan it around board deadlines: the wait between attempts is fixed, and a third attempt needs an approved waiver (retest rules).

Expiry: AFPC does not publish an expiry for AFOQT scores. Ask your recruiter whether a board will accept an older report before you count on it.

Where the Pilot composite goes next

Pilot and RPA pilot boards also see a PCSM score. Its inputs: TBAS, your highest AFOQT Pilot score on file (or EPQT for enlisted RPA) and civilian flying hours; the weights are not released and a private pilot license by itself adds nothing. The inputs, the flying-hours cap and the TBAS are explained on PCSM score.

Reading your AFOQT report: FAQ

What is a good AFOQT score?

Good means competitive for your board, and no official target is published. Clear every minimum for your path first, then aim as high as you can in the composite that path uses: Pilot for pilots, CSO or ABM for those jobs, Verbal and Quantitative for everyone.

How long do AFOQT results take?

Pearson VUE and AFPC say results are online in 2–3 business days, on AFPC's score site, where you sign in with your SSN, last name and test center number.

Can a retake lower my AFOQT score?

Not the score of record. AFPC keeps your best result on each composite across valid attempts. A retake can still lower your PCSM. AFPC's PCSM FAQ says any new AFOQT or TBAS is re-scored under the current algorithm, which credits at most 60 flying hours, so a candidate once credited with more hours can see the PCSM drop even with a better Pilot score. Read PCSM score first if you fly.

How long are AFOQT scores good for?

AFPC does not publish an expiry date. Some programs and boards have their own rules, so confirm with your recruiter or detachment.
